̨ʹٷվ Community College wasn’t Camden Traweek’s first choice but as he graduated on Wednesday, Dec. 15 he reflected that it turned out to be his best choice.
Traweek was the speaker for one of three graduation ceremonies at ̨ʹٷվ Community College at the Muse Center on the Rankin Campus.
“I will always value the time I spent at ̨ʹٷվ, the friendships I made, and the growth that took place,” said Traweek, a Brandon resident. “̨ʹٷվ is a special place filled with special instructors, professors and administration.

“Thank you to the administration for overseeing and leading us in our endeavors. Thank you for organizing events and making sure that we as students have everything we need for our success. Every instructor I encountered in my time at ̨ʹٷվ cared for their students deeply and truly wanted to see their students succeed,” he said.
He earned an associate degree toward a career in kinesiology. After ̨ʹٷվ, he plans to continue pursuing his degree with a focus on performance fitness. While at ̨ʹٷվ, he was involved in the Honors College Program and served as the co-vice president of service for Phi Theta Kappa.
̨ʹٷվ Community College graduated more than 800 students in one of three graduation ceremonies at the Muse Center on the Rankin Campus. ̨ʹٷվ awarded 1,150 certificates and degrees, with some students receiving more than one credential.
Of those graduating,148 were cum laude with a grade point average of 3.2 to 3.59; 94 were graduating magna cum laude with a grade point average of 3.6 to 3.99 and 117 were graduating summa cum laude with a grade point average of 4.0.
Brenda Kimbrough of Louise gave the invocation. She earned an associate degree toward a career in social work and plans to transfer to Mississippi. Brenda is a member of Alpha Beta Gamma honor society.

̨ʹٷվ President Dr. Stephen Vacik acknowledged the extra difficulties students had because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Commencement is a proud occasion for the ̨ʹٷվ Community College family. Every graduation ceremony is special to the college, as we celebrate the success of each student. It is important that we truly celebrate what our graduates have achieved – they have overcome a series of unusual circumstances over the last several months,” he said.

Raven Pittman of Raleigh checked in with Sharon Hudson, Dean of Career-Technical Education Public Service, before her Dec. 15 graduation ceremony at ̨ʹٷվ Community College. She received a degree in Medical Data Technology.
